My idea behind this story is to present a new perspective, or it’s more like an attempt to present you with something you already know but with a little different standpoint.
Someone once said and I quote:
When a man earns, he feeds his family.
When a woman earns, she lifts the Nation.
I believe it’s especially true for a country like India, let me show you Why, and How much of a difference it can create, and I will love to know, What You think post reading this story.
This is the story of my friend, let's call her "Harmony".
20 years ago She got married and left this City, around 2 years after her marriage I also migrated to a different location and got settled there and we went to our Journey, pursuing our dreams with little or no contact.
Fast-forwarding to the present, she is now a professional Soft Skills trainer.
Recently we met again, after long 20 years, we discussed a lot of things and cheered good old memories, in between those Nostalgic conversations, she happened to tell a fascinating story, from the time she started her first job.
She started to work in an MNC firm with an initial takeaway salary of 30k per month, due to her and her husband’s busy schedule, Harmony hired a full-time Maid for 8k per month. Her maid was extremely Loyal as she was in desperate need of Money when Harmony ask her for work, the maid had just one young sister and Parents, with only her father who used to earn for his family that too just enough so than survive.
One day Harmony was talking to her maid and asked about her Sister, while listening to her problems she suggested to try approaching Dominos for full-time work as her sister also wants to earn money and create a better life for herself, but her maid objected as her sister didn’t have the required skills to work in Dominos, countering that Harmony suggested to let her attend 2 different courses for 2 months for English and Soft Skills respectively, and it will cost her 5k each per month so a total of 20k for 4 months and since her maid is also earning now their family have more income and more savings since conditions now seem to be in her favour she sent her sister to attend those courses.
Fast Forwarding to 4 months, now maid’s sister developed some new skills and got selected for Dominos and started to work with the Initial salary of 12k per month, now her family’s overall income became much more than half a year ago, and with the good Habit of savings, they were able to accumulate some good sum of money as savings.
Coming back to the present now her maid has an 18 years old Daughter with good education (Education does not necessarily mean school and colleges) and have a Job with a net take away salary of 30k (Inflation adjusted) you know what’s her Daughter name, you guess, She named her “Harmony”
This was a tail of small trails that created a big difference, a trail started with a girl who went against all odds to earn money that lead another woman to earn money that lead her sister to earn money than lead her daughter to get a good education and hence a good job, a tale started with Harmony and concluded with Harmony.
Let’s take a tale parallel to it, the Story of another girl let's name her “Azubah”. Azubah didn’t earn anything, so in this story that maid didn’t get hired, her sister didn’t develop skills and was unemployed, they lived in poverty with a single source of income, and this time that maid named her daughter “Azubah”, and the trail went on.
Now if we look back to Harmony’s life, she started with 30k Income but India started with 80k income (30k + 8k + 12k + 30k) for a generation and with a girl who lived a new and beautiful life (of next-generation) that she could have lived in despair, needless to mention she made the life of one whole Lineage better and started a chain reaction and that next-generation of Harmony will make someone’s else lineage wonderful and it will go on forever.
By referring to our story, if 1 girl starts to work she can influence 3 others and can earn a total of 80k per month, 9.6L per year.
What if 1% of Indian girls starts to work, that will eventually going to influence other 3%, assuming 140crs of Indian population with equal ratio we have 70crs girls, 1% of 70crs is 7crs
So 1% of the girl's population, if take their step forward can raise a sum of (7crs * 9.6L)
67.2 Lakh Crs of Wealth for India
The estimated GDP of India for 2021 is 235 Lac Crores
So, 1% of Indian Women if starts to work can raise the GDP by almost 25%, that's Insane
Now the quote sounds much more real
“When a man earns, he feeds his family
When a woman earns, she lifts the Nation”
It’s true Harmony Can’t change the Nation alone, but if many Harmony Unites can change the Nation, after all the literal meaning of Harmony is understood as the elements of a design fit together, you can search the meaning of "Azubah" as well.
This story is itself a good case scenario, Worst case senior will still be far better than Zero and with Infinite possibilities, the best-case scenario can go really wild.
